Amanda Tavares

Amanda was one of the project managers and a research associate for Representing Migration. She completed her PhD at the University of Sheffield (UK), and her thesis explored the Mediterranean Sea as a geographical, political, conceptual and poetic space through the work of seven contemporary transnational women artists. Amanda is particularly interested in how contemporary art can renegotiate and dismantle historical visual tropes, as well as in the role of installations and multimedia artworks in creating spaces for political reflection and community engagement. She is currently a Leverhulme Trust postdoctoral researcher at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal).
